About Us

Founded in 1852, Phi Mu is the second-oldest female fraternal organization in the nation. Built upon the values of love, honor, and truth, Phi Mu empowers women to lead with confidence, serve with purpose, and build lifelong friendships. The Gamma Kappa chapter is proud to carry on this tradition while fostering a supportive community where sisters can grow academically, personally, and professionally.

Values

Our core values are Love, Honor, and Truth, serving as the foundation of our sisterhood and guiding everything we do. These values inspire us to support one another, lead with integrity, pursue academic excellence, and make a meaningful impact on our campus and community. Through lifelong friendships, shared experiences, and a commitment to personal growth, we strive to uphold these principles each day and create an environment where every sister feels valued, empowered, and connected.

Why Phi Mu?

Cate Nixon - PC’25

“If you had told me before college that a group of girls I had never met would become some of the most important people in my life, I never would have believed you. Phi Mu became my home away from home from the moment I walked through the doors. The girls I have met here have supported me through stressful exams, celebrated my accomplishments, picked me up on difficult days, and reminded me that I never have to face anything alone. Whether it's a quick check-in text, a late-night conversation, or simply knowing there is always someone in my corner, the sisterhood has given me a sense of comfort and belonging that I didn't know I needed.

What makes Phi Mu so special to me isn't the events, the photos, or the letters we wear. It’s simply the people. It's the feeling of walking into a room and knowing you're surrounded by girls who genuinely care about you and want to see you succeed. Even after just one year, some of the friendships I've found here have had a bigger impact on my life than I ever could have imagined. Phi Mu gave me a family when I was far from my own and a place where I could always be myself. No matter where life takes me after graduation, Phi Mu will always feel like home. LIOB!”

“The second I walked into Phi Mu during recruitment, I knew that this place was home. Not the room but these people, these girls, were my home. It is a place where I can fully be myself through and through and not feel judged or looked at indifferently. Our values of Love, Honor, and Truth are not just words, but they are a reflection of the genuine love, honor, and truthfulness of this chapter. They’re reflected in the way the women support and celebrate one another, and in the genuine kindness they show. From the beginning, I felt a sense of belonging and authenticity that I couldn’t ignore. Phi Mu represents the kind of community I want to be part of, one that empowers women, builds lifelong friendships, and encourages me to become the best version of myself. Gamma Kappa has changed my life. They gave me a home away from home, and I could not be more thankful. LIOB💗”

“In the time leading up to college, I was sure I wanted to join a sorority. But when I got to Wilmington, I was a little overwhelmed and honestly scared to go through recruitment. My older sister has always been such an important part of my life, so I decided to go through recruitment, hoping to find girls who reminded me of her and who would make Wilmington feel a little more like home.

From the moment I walked into Phi Mu, I felt a sense of comfort and belonging that I hadn't felt anywhere else. The women I met were genuine, supportive, and welcoming, and they quickly became the sisters I was looking for. Joining Phi Mu has given me lifelong friendships, unforgettable memories, and a community that encourages me to be the best version of myself every day. Take the leap, and Go Greek 🤍”

“Joining phi mu after transferring has been amazing!! Phi Mu is where I come to relax and forget about the stress of school and work! I am so thankful for my Pham, our chapter advisor/ exec, and for the memories I have made so far. My favorite part about Phi Mu was getting my big Payton and becoming a twin with Reese. Our sisterhood is so special; I’m thankful for the opportunity to enjoy my senior year with my sisters, and I am forever thankful for what Phi Mu has given me!”

“Phi Mu was the most unexpected blessing I could have received. Going through rush my freshman year, I was homesick and worried I wouldn’t find my place. After talking to Phi Mu, I felt an instant relief wash over me as I saw my new home in Wilmington. Opening my bid and seeing Phi Mu was a moment I would never forget, as every girl I met showed me compassion, kindness, and genuine love for one another. Since joining, I have found my best friends, roommates, and the people I will happily surround myself with throughout the future. I could text or call any girl in this chapter and know they will drop anything to help. The sisterhood is so strong and every chapter meeting feels like a family gathering. On top of that, working with our philanthropy brought me even more love for the girls in this chapter and has helped me grow stronger and more confident. As a nursing major, it is academically challenging, but the support system within Phi Mu keeps me going and helps me with every challenge. Phi Mu has brought me so much and I could not be more grateful! I love this chapter so much!! LIOB 🤍”
